The spelling list for each week contains a new set of spelling patterns that we will be learning. We will practice sorting words into patterns, looking for the patterns when we are reading, and learning to spell the patterns in our writing. Please make sure your child can read each word and identify the pattern. They should also spend some time practicing how to spell the words. Some children may enjoy interactive practice that involves clapping or chanting as you spell out loud. Other children may benefit from seeing the word in front of them as they type, write, or create the word from letter tiles. Some kids like to practice with plastic magnetic letters on the refrigerator. Spelling does not need to be repetitive and boring week after week. Mix it up and have some fun.
We will be having spelling practice tests on Thursdays. Your child will not need to take the spelling test on Friday if they get all of the words correct on Thursday. The pretests will be sent home on the day that they are taken so that you can see the progress that has been achieved. I will always have the spelling list posted on this site each week. You can also find the spelling words on the weekly homework sheet.
